Not much has changed in 10 years, at least not on Woody Island in Esperance’s Recherche Archipelago.
In the 2017 holiday period, I returned to the island that I spent so many days of my childhood exploring. When I stepped from the boat onto the jetty, I was overwhelmed with memories and a profound feeling of connection to this little corner of the world.
I spent the following days of my return recreating film photographs from the late ’90s and early ’00s. Taking the images at the right time of day, and in the right location, was truly challenging. On the other hand, I had a blast reliving these moments.
I hope you enjoy giggling at these recreations as much as I enjoyed creating them!
Solar panels and flourishing flora, just what we love to see!
Did you notice? I still use the same snorkeling set!
Always searching for marine life in the crystal clear water of Shearwater Bay. Did you notice that even the cracks in the rocks have stayed the same?
I am so grateful to have spent so many years visiting Woody Island and to have stayed so soon after the island reopened to visitors. It was a short adventure but it meant the world.
Which recreation made you giggle? My favourite is definitely the sunscreen face! Let me know in the comments below ?
