This little brown parcel had been sitting on my desk for a month before I got the courage to try it. Boy, did I wait a month too long!
I received the Yellow Beauty Turmeric Face Mask earlier this year as a gift from founders, Jaz and Jamil. To be honest, their business model inspires me. While Yellow Beauty was clearly founded with a focus on products that are gentle on your skin and actually work, there is an obvious driving factor to make an impact.
Ten percent of all Yellow Beauty profits are donated to Plan International Canada’s Hatibandha Project in 2018. This project not only helps to end child marriage in India but also improves access to secondary education especially for girls, helps to raise awareness of gender discrimination, and much, much more.
So, to draw attention to the great work Yellow Beauty is doing, I decided to try out my Yellow Beauty mask… on camera! To no surprise at all, this mask left my skin feeling soft and clear, without the use of any nasties at all.
The Ingredients
Just like their name, Yellow Beauty makes products that are actually yellow! The yellow tone comes from their main ingredient, turmeric. Founder Jamil was first exposed to turmeric skincare during a Holud (Haldi) ceremony at a family wedding in Bangladesh, where the bride and groom are covered in homemade turmeric paste. Inspired by this Indian tradition that naturally nourishes the skin, Yellow Beauty beauty was born.
Their vegan and cruelty-free turmeric face mask contains a simple yet effective formula, ideal for sensitive skin. Ingredients go as follows:
Kaolinite (White Clay)
Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Flour
Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Powder
Argania Spinosa (Argan) Nut Oil
Tocopherol (Vitamin E)
Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil
Vanilla Planifolia (Vanilla) Oil
That’s it!
Packed full of all-natural goodness, I’m a huge fan of all these nourishing and detoxifying ingredients.
The Review
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I never use face masks. This isn’t because I don’t love relaxing with a mask every now and then (quite the opposite, actually!) but they’re just so hard to use when you live in a compact home with no running water.
Safe to say, this mask took me a lot longer to apply and to wash off than what it would for any other person!
Frankly, it was worth it.
While there was an element of fun involved in painting my face bright yellow, there was also a sense of grounding knowing that I was embracing an ancient and trusted tradition. Even better, using this Yellow Beauty product made me feel like I was making a difference. While I’ll certainly be buying more of their natural skincare to support their donations, I was also proud to be able to promote such an important cause.
